Foam on the Brain

A Home Brewing Club in San Diego, CA

Foam on the Brain Meeting Notes – September 2009
Saturday, September 19th 7:00PM
Next meeting: Saturday, October 17th (7:00PM) @ The San Diego Brewing Company

Club Finances:
The club currently has $836.22 on the books. It’s that dues time of the year again. $20 single/ $25 couple. If you haven’t done so already please pay soon.

Also, a special thanks to Bill Benzel, Ken Schmidt and John DeGrazia who donated money at the meeting to the club out of fear of being elected to office.

John Degrazia will be forming a committee to explore/price new glassware with an etched logo this time around. This is our one big purchase goal this year before the Ojai festival

***** Club Elections *****
Voting took place at tonight’s meeting and the results are in. Presenting your 2009/2010 club officers:
President: Ryan
VP: Mike Lee
Secretary: Dan Steward
Treasurer: Todd Bissell

The club would like to extend a big thank-you to the outgoing administration and a hearty welcome to the new-ish victims. Ryan was so overwhelmed by the results he was overheard saying “He’ll be out giving nickel blow jobs to homeless homosexuals in order to get his self respect back.”…Wow…2010 is going to be a great year for the club, or at least for Ryan.

***** Upcoming Events *****

Club Competitions:
The next competition at the November club meeting will be for holiday/spiced ales. This is pretty self explanatory, if you make a special brew for the holidays then bring it out for a chance to win some respect from fellow club members.
February will be Imperial Stouts and Porters.

Oct 3rd (Saturday) - Holiday Wine Cellar’s Anniversary Beer Competition
Fellow homebrewers, The Holiday Wine Cellar in Escondido has decided to create a custom beer to celebrate their anniversary in March. This beer will be based on a homebrew recipe made under the oversight of Patrick Rue at The Bruery in Placentia (Orange County). The details for the event as well as registration forms can be found on their site at:

http://www.holidaywinecellar.com/t-HBForms.aspx

Oct 10th (Saturday) - QUAFF Oktoberfest picnic:
Stan of QUAFF wants to remind everyone of their upcoming Oktoberfest picnic at San Dieguito County Park (Site #1) on Saturday, October 10th from 11AM to 5PM. We will have our jockey box set-up dispensing beers as well as grilling up a variety of meats. We’ll have more discussion via email regarding the specifics about getting our beers/club members there and back that day.

Oct 17th (Saturday) - Annual Julian Cider Run:
Ed Little is once again organizing the annual cider run which will take place next month on the same Saturday (in the morning) as the club meeting. We’ll once again be getting the cider from “Apple Lane Orchards”. The plan is to meet up there, get the juice then go to brunch then Ed’s got a list of local wineries for those interested in doing some wine tasting on the way back. More details can be found on our Ning site:

Additionally, you can email Ed for more info or to request he bring you back juice at elittle42@yahoo.com

Ojai Beer Festival 2010
Ed Little discussed next year’s festival a bit and that the camping reservations will open again soon. We decided to keep the same number and location of sites as we did last year. We may have a few guests stay with us from QUAFF this time but it shouldn’t push us over the maximum number of people allowed at our sites

***** Additional Stuff *****
Carrie Little announced that she will be doing the Susan G Komen 3 Day walk for breast cancer in November and would appreciate any donations in order to meet her fund raising goal this year. You can find out more information and make a donation online at the following URL:

Matt Earle had a 40% off coupon for Homebrew Mart that he gave to the club tonight to put together a large order of ingredients so that as many people as possible can take advantage of the savings. Todd has the coupon and at some point will set up a discussion on our Ning site to gauge the interest and hopefully put together a list. Special Note: The coupon does not cover expensive equipment.

That’s it for this month, we’ll see everyone (hopefully) at the next meeting.

Cheers,

Djs

For any folks that did not receive an updated Sept 2009 - Aug 2010 FotB Membership card, please drop me a line at todd.bissell@gmail.com.

If you can wait until the October meeting, cool. If you're making a HomeBrew Mart run before then, and don't want George et al hassling you, I'd be happy to mail you your card(s).

P.S. No cheaters -- I know who's paid and who hasn't! ;)
